I just finished this book and will be beginning it again shortly. It is a practical guide on prayer that will affect your walk with God. I bought one for each of my children for Christmas!
This book is simple yet profound. It seems like each chapter brings more joy to my soul and deeper connection with God. Parrish's book is a no non-sense, deeply personal and engaging guide to connect with God. I highly, highly recommend this book to all my friends.

This is such a gem of a book, written by a man who lives out these principles. It gives those of us struggling with our prayer lives some great handrails for moving from "duty to delight" in our spiritual disciplines, and also gives some fresh categories for thinking about prayer. He covers a lot of ground, from prayers of lament to prayers of adoration. It's an easy read because there are so many great personal stories that illustrate these fresh principles. I loved this book and have read it twice, and have given a couple of copies to friends. I would highly recommend it as a gift or a personal read for anyone wanted to strengthen their prayer lives. I recently started a discipleship group with a number of "seasoned" believers (all of whom had been following Christ for many years). In the course of our discussions I quickly discovered that none of them had developed a consistent practice of daily, intimate communion with God through his word and prayer. Later as I considered how to encourage them in this direction this book immediately came to mind. I have read many wonderful resources on this topic but I have never encountered anything quite like From Duty to Delight. In terms of its comprehensive treatment of the devotional prayer life, its numerous examples, its wonderful collection of relevant scriptures, and its overall practicality it is indeed a unique resource. Whenever I find myself needing motivation or inspiration to continue seeking a dynamic devotional life, I return to the pages of this book. I am convinced that anyone who works their way diligently through this short treasure will find that the subtitle will become true for them Finding Greater Joy in Daily Prayer.
Ron Parrish takes you on a journey of his personal faith and awakening to a proper prayer life with easy to follow instructions and personal stories. God really does want us to spend time in communion with him and Ron helps us get there. Each chapter wraps up with relevant homework and the book stays on an easy to read and follow level. I'd give it another star if I could.
