A Sanctuary Novel
Can cats and dogs ever get along, let alone fall in love?
Sam knows you can never go home again. As an orphaned feline shifter raised by wolves, being an outcast is nothing new to him. But the pack is still his family, and when one of them passes away, Sam returns to the New Mexico desert to say good-bye.
Gus is a loner who rarely returns to his pack, but as fate would have it, Sam is there when he chooses to visit. The history between Gus and Sam is tumultuous, to say the least, but when Gus gets an eyeful of the grown-up and gorgeous version of his childhood bully, he can’t control his reaction. And he isn’t alone.
The attraction is powerful, but so are their differences. And with trouble brewing in the pack and danger surrounding them, Sam and Gus might not have the opportunity to seek common ground.
This action-packed shifter novel is the ultimate opposites attract and enemies-to-lovers romance, and it includes a bonus novella, In the Dog House.

Awesome! That's the word for this story. I ask you, what's better than a good cat and dog, or rather, wolf story? This one qualifies for one of the Top 10.
The dialogue is the first thing that grabbed me. The author is brilliant at writing it. It's sucked me right into the story that it became a movie in my mind. The characters are so real that they mesh perfectly. The supporting characters in the story are, also, crafted beautifully that they really do lend support.
Some of my favorite scenes are when Gus and Sam are playing. Sam will leap from here to there and then wag his tail and then Gus leaps to grab it and they tussle and play, it's just so fun to read. I feel like I'm there and laughing my head off.
I also loved the gradual romance of Gus and Sam. The pacing of that was really expertly done. The timing was impeccable. It was the perfect amount of pull and take.
I also loved the ending. The author gives a perfect wrap up to this brilliant story. It has an epilogue as well as a bonus story which is like part two of the story. It tells of their future - a few years down the road. I really appreciated it and love that.
*Spoiler Alert next paragraph*
My only issue or criticism is when Gus got put in prison and needed to be rescued. He called Sam because he knew Sam would get the job done. It jumps from him being in prison to him being rescued. I really wanted to see how Sam did it and I wanted to see Sam rescue him. That was a big letdown. Also, I feel that the story did not need Sam being tortured. I felt something else could have been done to Sam, like, he could have been at home when his home got burgled or got roughed up being mugged or something like that. I feel torture was completely unnecessary and it was like a smear in this wonderful story. Like a spec on a white piece of paper.
Overall, I highly highly recommend this story. It's one of those feel good, cute stories, if you remove Sam being *# part, that you would want to read again at a later date. I'm very glad that this is number one of a new series. I can't wait for the second one to come out. So, if you love a good cat and wolf story then you will definitely want to get this one.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Gus and Sam are a strange couple to say the least. Wolf and large Cat... I found this story very frustrating, because it felt so jumbled. I can normally follow fairly well, but I found myself having to continuously look back and figure out what was happening, where they were, who was doing what.
There were hints throughout this story but everything just felt incomplete.
There is a love story buried within the pages, but it is slightly obscure and jumps from past to present so quickly.
I didn't get that the two main characters really had that much chemistry. It seemed more of a friends to lovers idea, but it just didn't work for me all that well.
Both characters save each other and in the end, they are able to live peacefully, but I just felt that this was missing parts of the story that would have made it that much more clear.
I have a love/hate relationship with Shifter novels. There are several mainstream urban fantasy Shifter series that I enjoy. Among them, the Patricia Briggs Mercedes Thompson series Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, Book 1) and Eileen Wilks Tempting Danger (The World of the Lupi, Book 1). M/M Shifter stories often fail by comparison, usually because they're too trite.
That being said, I really enjoyed "Cats and Dogs." It doesn't approach the complexity of mainstream Shifter novels, but it was fun anyway. The relationship between the main characters was enjoyable, and I liked the way the author fit their human personalities to their Shifter identities.
I still hold out hope that one of these talented M/M authors will go more mainstream and write urban fantasy with gay characters.
Fun read and appealing characters. Here's hoping for more in this series.
It has been a bit hit and miss for me and this author however this book is awesome! I loved the theme and appreciated less detail on the bad parts throughout the book as a lot of the time, spelling something out isn't necessary. I loved the characters and the way it was written. I loved it that much that once I finished I bought the next one!
I would have liked for there to have been a bit more worldbuilding in this book to understand what the rules were. I don't know what made Sam and Gus mates... Were they fated? Did a bite during sex do it? Something else?
